Moderating an all star panel with Tim Schafer, Patrice Désilets and Chris Avellone

Right in the week after Quo Vadis I was so fortunate to moderate a panel at our partner conference Reboot with Tim Schafer (e.g. Monkey Island, Broken Age, Psychonauts, Day of the Tentacle), Patrice Desilets (e.g. Assassins Creed I, II & Brotherhood, Prince of Persia – Sands of Time) and Chris Avellone (e.g. Fallout 2, Planetscape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Fallout: New Vegas, FTL: Advanced Edition).

The panel was on the rather sublime topic “From AAA to Indie and back“, but instead from going into the nowadays somewhat stale general Indie debate we went through a spectrum of choices which you have to make when deciding where to position yourself as a company and as an individual when assessing the complex possibilities for your projects when bringing a game “out there” today.

As you caCliffyB on audience of my Paneln see there was an critical audience (well and we look a bit tired since the conference had seen already “some” social activities the three days before). 🙂
But apparently the audience was packed and high class, as for example Cliff Blezinski (e.g. Gears of War) sat in the front row, so we were glad the room was crowded though speaking on pretty the last slot on the last day!

In case you were wondering about the bathrobe: what happens at Reboot stays at…(erhm no, that´s the ethos our exec events on Mallorca and in Los Angeles).

To be honest: nobody in the room like Chris, a panelist or even the moderator (aka: me) mentioned it. So no one knows. 🙂

Tim Schafer Feedback

Feedback on the panel was amazingly great, so thanks to Damir Durovic for the great opportunity and to Tim, Patrice and Chris for the wonderful experience! Lesson learnt: never pull out, even when approached with crazy panel moderations, it may make all the difference.

One last thing: since I was a bit busy in organising the panel and myself I forgot to record the session: so if you made a video, or have at least video fragments (since I saw a lot of people in the audience filming), or know someone who did: please get in touch with me. Thank you!
